Woman Killed, Daughter Hurt in Shooting in Naranja – NBC 6 South Florida
A woman was killed and her 3-year-old was hurt after a shooting at an apartment complex Monday in Naranja.
Officers responded to the 2500 block of South Dixie Highway near US 1.
Lashonte Jones, 24, was with her daughter outside of an apartment complex when a gray, four-door Nissan approached them and someone inside opened fire, police said.
Jones died at the scene. Her daughter was hospitalized and is expected to recover.
Northbound US 1 at Southwest 260th Street was closed off as police investigated.
Jones worked as a Transportation Security Administration officer.
“Today we tragically lost one of our own TSA Officers who was killed as they returned home from the airport late this afternoon,” said Daniel Ronan, Federal Security Director, TSA at Miami International Airport. “I am shocked and deeply saddened at the senseless act of violence, that took a young, vibrant officer away from their family and away from us way too soon. Words just cannot properly convey the immense loss all of us are feeling at this moment.”
