Officials say a woman is dead and a man injured following a shooting incident in Allen at mid-day Monday.
According to the Allen Police, the shooting occurred at about 2:27 p.m. Monday, in the 600 block of W. McDermott Drive, east of Central Expressway.
Police said they were initially called to the area on a disturbance reports which was changed to a “weapons fired call” based on information dispatch call-takers received.
Arriving officers located a woman holding a rifle and heard several shots. The woman started to run with the rifle, police said, and an officer fired at least one shot at her.
It was unclear if the shot fired by the officer struck the woman, police said.
The woman collapsed several feet away and officers found a man with a gunshot wound on the ground between two vehicles, police said.
Witness video showed officers approaching the woman on the ground.
Police said first aid was performed on both people, who were rushed to an area hospital. The woman was pronounced dead and the man was rushed into surgery and is in an undisclosed condition. Although police said he remains in the ICU.
The woman was not identified Monday night.
The Texas Rangers will lead with the investigation because an officer discharged his weapon, police said.
Allen police said they were investigating a shooting between the man and the woman.
Late Monday, the ATF used a dog at the scene which is trained to detect bullet and bullet fragments that may be overlooked by the naked eye.
Part of a tree was also carved out where an officer said a bullet passed through.
