About Molly Shannon’s Book
When she was 4, she lost her other, her younger sister and her cousin in an accident while her father was driving under the influence. She shared with PEOPLE that after years of dealing with the pain of the loss and nursing a dream to be writer, Shannon has decided to finally take the bull by the horns. At 56, she is finally opening up about the pain and grief of her past — as well as the humor and healing she’s found since. Her book is titled “Hello, Molly!” and it will be published by Ecco on April 12th, 2022. Since she was in her 20s, Shannon has been jotting down notes and memories, which she then referenced when she began writing Hello, Molly! a couple of years ago.
Although, her dad was a key factor in the accident that claimed the lives of her mum, sister and cousin, Shannon was very fond of him while he was alive and still nurses fon memmories even now that he is late. She said “I definitely always wanted to write about my dad. He was such a big character in my childhood, so I would always take notes of funny things that he said or how he spoke. Always. He was just such a big influence on me and my characters on SNL“.
