Four injured, one battles for life following a rollover crash in West Springfield
Four people have been hospital, one with life threatening injuries following a two-vehicle accident that happened in West Springfield on Thursday, September 23, 2021.
According to report, rollover accident involving an SUV that caught fire occurred at the area of 675 Memorial Avenue in front of the Central Chevrolet car dealership around 1:30 p.m.
Investigation revealed that, both cars where travelling eastbound when the SUV struck the other vehicle while attempting to overtake it. The SUV driver then lost control of the vehicle and struck a guardrail, which resulted in the vehicle overturning before it caught fire.
Three occupants of the SUV were extricated from the vehicle after the fire was extinguished and were transported by ambulance to Baystate Medical Center for medical treatment. Two suffered serious but not life threatening injuries while one is in critical condition. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to an area hospital for observation.
Part of Memorial Avenue that leads to The Big E was shut down and was reopened at about 6:30 p.m. Authorities suspect Speeding to be a factor in that led to the crash.
