Highway 81, Freeman accident victims identified
Authorities have identified the two Norfolk, NE, residents that died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash on Saturday, Sept. 11, north of Freeman.
According to information released by the South Dakota Highway Patrol, a 2000 Ford F550 pickup pulling an empty horse trailer, was moving northbound on U.S. Highway 81 when it tried to overtake a semi-truck and trailer.
It was then that the pickup and trailer crashed with a southbound 2016 Chevrolet Corvette head-on.
Authorities reported that the driver of the Corvette, 75-year-old Albert Wingate was flown to Sioux Falls hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, Sept. 18.
The passenger of the same vehicle, Marilyn Wingate, 74, was also airlifted to Sioux Falls hospital for the treatment of his injuries but later died on Monday, Sept. 20.
It was revealed that the victims were wearing seat belts during the accident.

The driver of the pickup, Jacob Langland, 28, of Lake Preston got serious non-life threatening injuries and was rushed to the Freeman hospital.
It was not revealed if he was wearing seat belt during the accident.
Authorities have not pressed any charges yet.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
