Who is Tommy Kirk
It is regrettable to announce that a former Disney star Tommy Kirk, who starred in films like “old Yeller”, Swiss Family Robinson” among others has died at 79. According to variety show, Disney chose not to renew the contract after he found out that Kirk got himself a boyfriend during the making of “The Misfortune of Merlin Jones”. Kirk was considered important to the Disney family, and compared to Kirk Douglas, rumors about his arrest and sexuality changed his image in 1964.
After the cancelation of his contracts with Disney, Kirk found a new abode in the mid-1960’s of the AIP and Annette Funciello beach blanket movies. According to reports Funciello is also a member of the Disney Diaspora, unfortunately, Kirk was arrested for possession of marijuana and barbiturates which he claimed was prescribed by his doctor. He appeared as a recast in in AIP’s “How to Stuff a Wild Bikini”
Kirk’s Sexuality and Arrest
The former Disney star Tommy Kirk announced his sexuality in 1973. According to reports, he announced it saying “I know I am gay, but my feelings have not been exported, back in 1993, he told the Film Road Magazine that it was difficult to meet new people, and there was no place to socialize”. He said it wasn’t until he heard of a place where homosexuals gather.
He was sad that the lifestyle was not publicly recognized and accepted and that makes him very lonely.
Tommy Kirk Career
According to reports, Kirk acknowledged that he’s not saddened about the event that happened between him and Disney; not wanting to work with him after fighting drugs. He said “I want to be remembered for my Disney works”, he said when he got to the level of a Disney legend in 2006. His works are The Shaggy Dog, The Absent Minded Professor, Old Yeller and the Swiss Robinsons, all on Disney among others.
