Teen, 15, shot near Minneapolis Park while Sibling played in Youth Football Game

Authorities say a 15-year-old boy is in critical condition following a shooting on Tuesday evening near a South Minneapolis park.

Police say the teen’s siblings were playing in a youth football game at the time of the shooting.

At about 6:47 p.m. Minneapolis police responded to the intersection of 40th Street East and Columbus Avenue South, near Phelps Field Park.

The victim was located suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

He was transported to HCMC for surgery.

Sources say Twin Cities North Football League youth game was going on at the park between fourth graders from Minneapolis and Brooklyn Center.

One of the coaches says the victim is a sibling of a Brooklyn Center player.
