Thulani Manqoyi Death – Obituary : The Cape Town police are on the hunt for two suspects who allegedly killed a 52-year-old school teacher at the Heinz Park Primary School in Philippi on Tuesday.
Reports said Thulani Manqoyi was shot dead in the parking area of the primary school while sitting in his vehicle.
Police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut said the incident took place at about 07:45. “Two unknown suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested. Any person with information regarding the murder is kindly requested to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.”
According to the local policing forum, the Grade 6 mathematics teacher, who had being with the school since 2008, was shot in full view of other teachers and pupils.
“It’s understood two males held up the security guards at gunpoint and directly walked up to Mangoyi,” said Samora Machel CPF spokesperson Bongani Maqungwana.
He added that the shooting had sent shockwaves throughout the community.
“We are very distraught and sad as a community. There have been many gang-related shootings specifically in that area close to the school and we are deeply concerned about it,” he added.
Maqungwana added, “It’s clear that this was planned very well, they went straight for the teacher. They were waiting for him.”
He urged police to follow all the leads to bring the perpetrators to book.
“The WCED sends its condolences to the family, friends and school community,” Hammond added that counselling support had been arranged for pupils and teachers.
“The incident is most distressing.
We have no further details on the incident at this stage,” she added.
