Sarasota woman killed after tanker flipped over her car on U.S. 301 near 44th Avenue East
A 60-year-old Sarasota woman has died after a tanker truck carrying 2,000 gallons of chlorine overturn on her car on U.S. 301 near 44th Avenue East.
The crash happened on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at about 4:30 a.m.
According to report, the truck driven by a 39-year-old Tampa man was heading north on U.S. 301, when he attempted making a left turn onto 44th Avenue East from the left travel lane. At the same time, the woman was travel north on U.S. 301 in a Chevy sedan and was also making a left turn in a different lane. Nearing the intersection, the tanker lost control, dragged the car along with it into the southbound lanes before flipping onto the car killing the woman on the spot.
The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash by Manatee County paramedics. She remained trapped in her car for hours until crews offloaded the 2,000 gallons of chlorine from the tanker.
The driver of the truck was not hurt.
The woman’s identity will be revealed once her next of kin is notified.
