Suspected DUI driver charged in crash that killed West Texas police Sgt. and two family members in San Antonio
17-year-old Elijah James Montalvo, suspected of driving under influence when he ran into a car that claimed the lives of West Texas police sergeant and his family members has been arrested and is facing three counts of intoxication manslaughter, three counts of manslaughter, intoxication assault and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The two-vehicle crash occurred on Sunday, September 26, 2021 on the Loop 1604 and Culebra Road at about 1:30 a.m. in San Antonio.
According to report, 37-year-old Daniel Valenzuela Jr., a West Texas police Sergeant was driving northbound on the 1604 access road with his family members – his father, Daniel Valenzuela Sr., 69, grandmother, Andrea Uvalle, 84 and another 35-year-old woman and had ran a green light at the intersection of Culebra. At the same time, another vehicle driven by Elijah James Montalvo, 17 at high rate of speed without a green light on nearing the intersection, crashed into Valenzuela Jr.’s vehicle killing Valenzuela Jr., Valenzuela Sr., and Uvalle on the spot. The 35-year-old woman who was the backseat occupant was taken to the hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.
Montalvo has since be apprehended and charged with three counts of intoxication manslaughter, several other charges.
In a social media post made by Ector County Hospital District Police Chief, Brad Timmons, he described Sgt. Daniel Valenzuela Jr as being “instrumental in all aspects of the police department and MCH”

Valenzuela was instrumental in all aspects of the police department and MCH. Sgt.
