A SWAT Officer and a suspect were shot and transported to the hospital following a SWAT situation near an apartment complex in Sandy, according to report.

The incident occurred just before 5 a.m. near 242 W. Harrison Street at the Arcadia Apartments.

According to Sgt. Clayton Swensen with the Sandy Police Department, “officers were most likely serving a search warrant at the location when events escalated. The details leading up to the search are unknown at this time.”

According to Sgt. Clayton Swensen with the Sandy Police Department, “at some point, shots were fired, a SWAT officer and one suspect inside the apartments were shot.”

The officer and suspect were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Both are in stable condition, Sandy Police added.

The Officer-Involved Critical Incident team will be investigating the shooting over the next several hours, reports said.

Officials are asking the public to avoid the area during the investigation.
