JauMarcus McFarland has been identified as a teen footballer from Missouri who was fatally crushed after an elevator left him trapped.

McFarland, 18, had been attending Champion Prep Academy in Atlanta, a post-graduate program for students who wish to earn a degree in sport level.

The incident happened around 3 p.m. when JauMarcus and his teammates were leaving their hostel at 444 Suites Student Housing in Northeast Atlanta. They were leaving home for practice when an elevator trapped them leaving McFarland pressed between the cab and the third floor of the building leaving his legs dandling on the second floor.

According to report McFarland was remained trapped for almost an hour.

About an hour later, rescue crews came and relieved the 18 years from the trapped. The report says he died short from the injuries sustained.

Nathan Phillips the building’s manager told CBS46 that there were many people in the elevator at the time of this incident.

“The weight capacity of the elevator was 3,000 lbs. — but the 16 young athletes who were inside the elevator when this occurred pushed that limit to nearly 4,000 lbs.,” he said.
