Death – Obituary : Decomposing body found in vacant Birmingham home; authorities asking for help identifying him – Cause Of Death
Authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying remains found earlier this week in Birmingham’s Bush Hills community.
The discovery was made shortly before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday inside a vacant house at 1438 Eufuala Avenue. A nearby resident told authorities that a homeless man, who had not been seen for several months, was known to sit on the front porch of the house and was known by the nickname “Jerry Wayne.”
Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said the decomposing remains likely had been there from weeks to months. The adult Black male between the ages of 50 to 70.
He was no taller than 5-feet, 5-inches, had a medium build, black hair and black facial hair. Yates said the man had no restorative dental work, body piercings or tattoos, no healed fractures and no medical or orthopedic implants.
The man was wearing a gray long-sleeve sweatshirt with black horizontal stripes and dark-colored pants.
Anyone who believes that the remains could be those of a missing family member or friend should contact the coroner’s office at 205-930-3603.
