Hobart and William Smith Colleges student killed, one flown to hospital following a multi-vehicle accident in Seneca County
Veronica Ashby Death – Obituary: Veronica Ashby, 18, of New York City has been identified as the Hobart and William Smith Colleges student that lost her life in Seneca County fatal three-vehicle accident in the town of Waterloo.
The ugly incident occurred on Friday around 3:45 p.m. at the intersection of Route 96 and Brewer Road.
According to preliminary report, Daryannos Marco Kinney, 18, of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, was moving north on Brewer Road with two passenger, the vehicle was hit by a westbound dump truck, at the passenger side when his car failed to yield with the sign at Route 96. The first vehicle was later hit by another vehicle coming in the direction of the accident.
Ashby was the back seat passenger in the vehicle and Mekhi Bennett, 19, of the Bronx was the front seat passenger.
Ashby suffered major injuries from the accident and was confirmed dead at the scene.
Kinney was flown to Upstate University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The dump truck driver, Marc Lesterhuis, 53, and the driver of the third vehicle, Makayla Price, both from Waterloo did not sustain injuries from the accident.

According to report, “Veronica was a graduate of Success Academy High School of the Liberal Arts in New York City,” Jacobsen wrote. “Although new to the Hobart and William Smith community, she had already made a profound impact on her peers and educators. They describe her as vibrant, insightful and joyful, a person who made friends easily, and who was very close to her family.”
The incident is still under investigation by the Authorities.
