VALLON, Ruth (Halbstein) Age 96, of Belmont, MA, passed away of natural causes on Jan. 7, 2022. Ruth was the devoted wife of 74 years to Richard Vallon, and a treasured mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. Ruth (Ruthie) was born and raised in Chelsea, MA. At 17, she joined the US Cadet Nurse Corps. She loved being a nurse and worked as an RN in Boston, Bedford and Cambridge. She met her husband Richard, a corpsman in the Marines who became a podiatrist, at a USO dance.

They married in 1947, settling in Boston, Arlington and Belmont. He loved to make her laugh, and he did so for over seven decades. Ruth was an active volunteer at Beth El Temple in Belmont and a founding member of Temple Emunah in Lexington. She hosted epic holiday dinners for her extended family. Upon retirement, Ruth and her sister Bertha took up painting, played Mah Jong, watched the Red Sox, and shared much laughter, love, and sisterly comradery. She was much-loved and admired. Ruth is survived by daughters Susan Vallon and husband Andrew Beyer, Jean Vallon, Joni Vallon and partner David, and sons Mark Vallon and wife Mary Mogan-Vallon, and Jeffrey Vallon and wife Patricia, grandchildren Molly, Kate, Benjamin, John, Matthew, Alexis, and Maxim and great-grandchildren Malachi, Cadence, Nora, Liam and Felixe. She was preceded in death by sisters Bertha, Sally, and Madeline, brothers Lou and Bernie, and parents David and Judith Halbstein. She had character, charisma, and elegance. May she rest in Peace.
