Russell Long, who was found dead in Green County, remembered
Russell Long’s former boss recalls that Long was a quiet man — until he got comfortable around you.
Then, Long would talk and tell stories for hours.
Long’s former employer, David Guy, and many others are saddened by the fact that they will no longer get to hear Long’s stories.
Long, 39, went missing in late March, and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office announced this week Long’s body had been found by highway workers near Farm Road 59 and Farm Road 94 in Bois D’ Arc.
The sheriff’s office is investigating the death as a homicide.
Guy said he and the rest of the team at Guy’s Logging LLC in Walnut Grove had been praying that Long — a former employee — would be found safe, and they were heartbroken by Tuesday’s news from the sheriff’s office.
Guy explained that Long worked for the company for more than a decade as a “feller” (someone who cuts down trees in the logging industry) before moving on in 2019.
Guy said Long was one of the best fellers in the area and a genuinely nice person.
“Russell had a big heart and would help anyone out when needed,” Guy said.
Guy remembered that Long had a close relationship with his dog, Boots, who was his loyal companion.
Guy said he would be praying for Long’s family during this difficult time.
As of Friday, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office had not announced any arrests in Long’s case. Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s office.
