Robert Jeremiah Martland death – obituary, cause of death : Robert Jeremiah Martland 70, of Newport, Rhode Island. Has died. He passed away on January 2nd 2015.
Robert was born on February 22nd 1944 to the late John J. “Jake” Martland and Mary (Maloney) Martland of 4 Coggeshall Avenue, Newport. He went to and graduated from St. Augustine’s school, DeLaSalle Academy and Providence College earning a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics and history. He also did graduate work at the University of Rhode Island.
Martland taught history at Barrington High School following college. He managed “the Tavern” for Mike Hattub for many years and then he founded Newport Data Processing with Bill Babcock in 1977. When his partner became ill, he took over the business and made sure Bill’s family was taken care of.
His friend Bill’s dead in 1983. Bob then worked tirelessly for ten years at NDP before retiring in 2009 from Peckham Brothers in Middletown. During his long work history and after his father “Jake” died, he cared for his mother, Mary and his youngest brother, Paul.
Robert was an avid reader and he was a member at The Redwood Library. He enjoyed chatting with many friends at Hazard’s Beach where he worked as a teenager. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church.
Cause of death:
Robert Martland had a long and hard battle with diabetes, with his overall health suffering. He fought hard but finally succumbed.
