Richard Lamar Whitley death – obituary, cause of death : Richard Lamar Whitley 88, of Albemarle, NC. Has dead. He passed away at home, after a lengthy illness on Thursday, August 1, 2019.

Richard was born July 14th 1931 in Albemarle, NC to the late John Clifton Whitley and Lola Emma Mauldin Whitley, He was a hardworking man all of his life, working at several jobs, before he finally retired from Celanese Corp after more than twenty years of service.

He proud member of Asheville UM Church, an artist and was a member of the American Marquetry Society and the Marquetarians of the Carolinas. He enjoyed working in his shop for hours and he loved a good joke.

He had a caring heart, generous attitude and a fun-loving personality that laid the foundation for years of lifelong friendships. It didn’t matter what you needed, he would be there to help you celebrate, mourn, fix things, build something or to just listen and offer a shoulder to cry on or smile to laugh with.

He was a hardworking man all of his life, working at several jobs, before he finally retired from Celanese Corp after more than twenty years of service. His faith and family were the most important things in his life, and he proud member of Asheville UM Church,

He was a much-loved character who touched the lives of so many with his big heart, wisdom and greatness, His pleasures were simple, His needs were few. If his family was happy, He was too. He gave us love in the fullest measure, Care, devotion and memories to treasure. He shared our dreams, hopes and tears.

He was a loving husband who was best known for his infectious sense of humor and making everyone laugh. he was greatly admired for his athletic abilities in school and he passed his love and passion for sports down to all his children.

His daughter wishes to express her appreciation to Dr. James Andrews at Biltmore Medical Associate for the excellent care he provided to Richard over the years, and to the staff of Care Partners Hospice for their care these last few months.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to East Ashevile UMC Ministries, the East Asheville food pantry at Beverly Hills Baptist Church or to the East Asheville Welcome Table at Groce UMC.rR

His daughter Sharon wishes to express her appreciation to Dr. James Andrews at Biltmore Medical Associate for the excellent care he provided to Richard over the years, and to the staff of Care Partners Hospice for their care these last few months.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at East Asheville UMC with Rev. Avery White officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Skyview Memorial Park. A reception will follow at the church.
