Unlike most billionaires of this generation, Ramesh Babu Barber was not born with a silver spoon. Ramesh Babu’s father P Gopal, a hairdresser in Bangalore, died when he was 7 years old. With no savings at all, all he left for his wife and three children was a small barber shop on Bridged Road, Bangalore.
After her husband’s sudden death, Ramesh Babu’s mother was heartbroken and broke, and had to work as a servant to help feed her children and give them a decent life. Ramesh Babu’s mother probably earns between 40 and 50 rupees a month for everything, including clothes, books, expenses and everything.
“Billionaire Barber” Ramesh Babu eats just one meal a day. After Ramesh Babu’s father died and his mother was unable to run the barber shop, she rented it out for 5 rupees a day.
Ramesh Babu worked odd jobs as a child to support his mother and earn some extra money. Ramesh Babu started working part-time newspaper delivery, milk delivery and any other convenient job at the age of 13 to support his family.
By doing various odd jobs, Ramesh Babu continued his studies while supporting his family, completing his tenth standard study.
After the tenth class, Ramesh Babu decided to run his father’s shop instead of continuing his education. The salon is called the “inner space” and is located in a shopping mall near the school where he studied. It quickly became a fashionable styling shop.
The barber Ramesh Babu wants to do something, so he plans to buy a car. In 1993, with the help of his uncle, Ramesh Babu saved some money from his salon and used his small savings and hard-earned money to buy a Maruti Van (Omni) car. Since he was busy most of the time it was idle in his barbershop, he decided to rent it out when not in use. He hardly knew that this would one day make him a billionaire!
Ramesh Babu’s first business contract was obtained through the family for which his mother had worked since childhood. As he slowly and steadily accumulated a large customer base, Ramesh realized the potential of operating high-end car rental services and began to build a fleet.
