Pilot suffered non-life threatening injuries after helicopter crashed in Prospect Heights, Illinois

A pilot of a private helicopter that crashed-landed in Prospect Heights, just after Milwaukee Avenue sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Glenbrook hospital for X-rays. The pilot was the only one on board.

Report has it that the Robinson R44 helicopter that took off from Chicago Executive Airport crashed around 6:45 a.m. Wednesday on northbound Milwaukee at Apple.

Based on what the pilot told WGN News, “the engine of the helicopter failed upon departure and he immediately applied emergency procedures which enabled him to do a running landing. The helicopter’s rotor struck a pole on the way down”.

The Prospect Heights Fire Protection District and the Wheeling Fire Department as well as the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board responded to the crash.

The incident is being investigated by The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
