One homeless man died after clash with a second homeless man who is currently being treated at Berkeley Medical Center on Wednesday for stab wounds. The two fought near Winchester Avenue and John Street, police said. The victim has been identified as 35 year old Thomas M. Sims.
Martinsburg Police Department officers said they received a distress call to 500 block of West John Street that a man who had been stabbed had collapsed on the porch of a house. When the officers found the man, he was unresponsive and bleeding heavily from the left side of his chest, according to a news release from police department.
Sims was found by a John Street homeowner after the victim collapsed on the homeowner’s porch, police said.
Police said they have obtained warrants charging the second man with second-degree murder and malicious wounding, and that they plan to charge him once he has been released from the hospital.
Herald-Mail Media is has refused to identify the second man until he has been charged. A police department spokesman said Wednesday afternoon that the man is still being treated at the hospital.
