Emily Settle Death – Obituary – Emily Settle, a former SIU runner who competes during the 2015-16 season has passed away late Sunday night at the age of 24. She passed on after a prolonged battle with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, according to the news released on Monday.
Settle was diagnosed with leukemia as a freshman at SIU after feeling more fatigue than normal in April 2016 due to some unusual difficult runs.
Settle went to a hospital in St. Louis after her diagnosis, according to a report.
She spent some time in the ICU before receiving a stem cell transplant. She then returned home and went to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
In 2018, she had a second stem cell transplant there and was in remission.
Emily ran in five meets during her freshman cross country season and later competed in three outdoor meets that season.
