Ion Caramitru Death: Obituary – Ion Caramitru is an icon and one of the most celebrated Romanian actors. He passed away on September 5, 2021, at age 79.

The cause of his death is yet to be released to the public.

Career

Caramitru was cast in more than 40 Romanian and international film productions. He also worked with some of the best directors including Andrei Șerban, Liviu Ciulei, Silviu Purcărete, Sanda Manu, Cătălina Buzoianu, and Alexandru Tocilescu.

He won different awards in different years, including the Actor of the year for his work in 1975, 1979, 1981, and 1985.

Ion received the 1976 Best Performance award from the local Cinema magazine for his film roles. He was also crowned the Filmmakers’ Association award in 1980, and at the 1984 National Theatre Film Festival, he won the Jury’s Special Award in Costineşti.

Caramitru was a director of the National Theater in Bucharest since 2008 and president of the Romanian Theater Union UNITER.
