A teenage boy is dead after police say he was shot during a drive-by shooting off South Anderson Street in Bunnell Wednesday night.
Police identified the victim as 16-year-old Noah Smith and believe he was an innocent bystander.
“We received a phone call regarding a shooting, a drive-by shooting. When officers responded from shots in the area, we determined that it was an investigation where someone was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound,” Bunnell interim police chief Brannon Snead said.
The boy died at the hospital.
He has not been identified, but the school district confirmed he was a student at Flagler-Palm Coast High School.
Police say they don’t believe he was the intended target of the shooting.
“What we’ve determined is that this is a victim that wasn’t involved in the incident, a bystander. That’s the information we have right now,” Snead said.
The police department says no one has been arrested yet in this case, but they do have a few people of interest.
“We have identified, obtained some investigations as far as interviews go. And at that time we are consulting with the state attorney, and of course the sheriff’s office, with their support to determine which direction to take it,” Snead said.
The investigation remains ongoing as Bunnell Police turned over the case to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

“We’ve been informed of multiple threats against the alleged perpetrator and the possibility of people taking matters into their own hands,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “While we share in the anger, sadness, and frustration of this unfortunate event, we are asking the community to let us conduct our investigation and allow us to get justice for the victim and his family.”
School officials say grief counselors will be available to students who need them.
