Nathan Thomas Honeycutt Death – Obituary : Authorities said a 26-year-old Hillsboro man was shot and killed by deputies as they were trying to take him into custody during a traffic stop in Happy Valley early Monday morning, the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office said.
The incident started at about 2 a.m. near Southeast 145th and King Road.
Deputies tried to pull over the driver of a Ford Ranger pickup with no license plates, but the driver refused to stop and a police chase ensued.
Deputies flattened the pickup truck’s tires with spike strips when he tried to flee. They were able to stop the truck at Southeast 145th and Ridgecrest where, they said the suspect identified as Nathan Thomas Honeycutt struggled with deputies and then drew a revolver and a deputy then shot him.
Honeycutt was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Monday night, the DA’s office released the names of the deputies involved in the shooting.
Deputy Jansen Bento, Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, employed since February 2019 and Deputy Sam Tharpe, Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, employed since September 2017 and Deputy Matt Roach, Clackamas County Sheriff’s office, employed since September 2014.
The deputies were placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure in law enforcement shootings.
The investigation is being led by the Clackamas County Major Crimes Team and the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.
