Elena Tijamo – Death – Obituary: Missing Cebu programmer found dead in Manila. Remains deposited at St. Peter Funeral Homes in Quezon Avenue, Quezon City.
How did Elena Tijamo die?
Elena Tijamo was a program coordinator of Central Visayas Farmers Development Centre (FARDEC) and an agriculturist in Cebu. She had been missing for over a year before she turned up dead in a Manila hospital. Tijamo’s brother was said to have received a call from a certain Michael according to rights group “Karapatan-Central Visayas”.
The caller informed Carlos (Tijamo’s brother) that his sister passed on the 28th of August at VRP Medical Centre in Mandaluyong city, Metro Manila, he said that she had died after a Goitre surgery.
The victim’s daughter, Dawn confirmed that her mother indeed had Goitre but it was not known how she came to be in Manila or why she underwent a surgery since the condition was not life threatening.
Tijamo’s corpse was deposited at St. Peter Funeral Homes in Quezon Avenue, Quezon City but the family have been unable to claim their deceased loved one even though they have positively identified her due to the fake name that was given by those who had deposited her remains. The family have denied any knowledge of Michael or Neil Reyes who deposited her corpse and claimed to be her nephew.
It can only be imagined what the family is currently facing after months of hope that Tijamo would be found safe, only to hear of her demise but still be unable to reunite with her and lay her to final rest. The case of Elena has been likened to the case of Ka Randy Echanis and political prisoner Jesus Alegre.
