Man’s body found on former Player’s Pub property | Local
A man was found dead late Tuesday morning inside a makeshift shelter in an overgrown area in the 400 block of South Walnut Street.
Monroe County Coroner Joani Shields said the man had not been identified by midafternoon. She said foul play is not suspected in the death.
“We believe he is one of the individuals in our homeless community,” Shields said.
An autopsy will be performed to help confirm the man’s identity and cause of death.
According to a Bloomington Police Department news release, officers were called to the former Player’s Pub site at 10:50 a.m. after a city utilities worker marking easements in the area found an unresponsive man.
Paramedics arrived and confirmed the man, located on the northwest corner of the property, was dead. A deputy coroner came to the scene.
Officers said it appeared the man had constructed a small shelter adjacent to some bushes and small trees using lumber and scrap metal.
“There were no obvious signs of trauma or visible injuries to the man,” the news release said.
