2 motorists killed following two-vehicle crash on State Route 64 in Manatee County, Florida
A serious near head-on collision that took place on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 on State Route 64 in Manatee County, Florida around 5:13 p.m. has claimed the lives of two people.
According to report, a Honda Civic sedan driven by a a 29-year-old man from Sarasota was driving on State Road 64 negotiated a left curve on nearing the intersection with S.W. Oak Point Drive. At the same time, a Dodge Sport Utility Vehicle that was driven by a 54-year-old man from Wauchula was heading westbound on State Route 64. The SUV entered the same curve nearing the intersection with S.W. Oak Point Drive from the opposite direction. For reasons still under investigation, the Honda left the roadway onto the grass shoulder.
The vehicle continued in a northeast direction and reentered the road veering off the centerline State Road 64 into the path of the oncoming SUV which resulted in the right front of the Honda Civic colliding with the left front of the Dodge SUV at high rate of speed. The impact of the collision caused the sedan to rotate counterclockwise before coming to a rest north.
On the other hand, the Dodge SUV rotated counterclockwise while heading northward, before coming to a rest facing southward on S.W. Oak Point Drive as a result of the impact of the crash.
Both driver suffered serious injuries and were pronounced dead by Manatee County Emergency services at the scene of the crash.
Investigation into the cause of the cash continues by the Florida Highway Patrol .
