One killed, three injured in Johannesburg chemical tanker crash.
At least one person has died, three others injured following a three-vehicle accident on the N1 northbound between William Nicol Drive and Rivonia Road in Johannesburg.
The crash which involved a chemical tanker and two cars occurred on Tuesday morning around 9 a.m.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said, “A chemical truck was lying on its side on the side of the road while two light motor vehicles were a short distance away, one alight and another on its roof.
“It is understood medics pulled a man and woman from the burning vehicle.”
One of the victims of the accident was pulled from the burning vehicle and was confirmed dead by Meiring. His identity of the deceased was not disclosed immeditely by the Authorities pending notification of next of kin.
Another victim is said to be in a critical condition.
The truck driver also sustained major injuries from the crash. A woman from the overturned vehicle only got minor injuries.
Authorities rushed the injured patients to nearby hospitals for medical teatment.
Johannesburg metro police department spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said “the tanker was empty at the time of the accident.”
Minnaar said motorists could expect heavy traffic delays.
The cash is still under investigation by the officials.
