Man killed in Oakland drive-by shooting identified

Rashad Brinson Death Obituary : 28-year-old Rashad Brinson has been identified Friday by police as the victim of a drive-by shooting outside a West Oakland liquor store.

Brinson, who authorities said was a transient, was shot at about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday in the 2400 block of Adeline Street. He was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary investigation showed Brinson was apparently planning to purchase something at the store and was outside when someone in a passing vehicle opened fire toward him and some other people who were there.

Brinson was the only person hit by the gunfire.

Police said it does not appear at this time that he was the intended target.

A motive for the shooting has not been determined.

The shooter fled in a vehicle before police arrived and no arrests have been announced in the killing.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the killer.
