Man found dead in Sanilac County home following fire

Argyle Fire Department firefighters found a body inside an Evergreen Township home following a fire in the early morning hours of Thursday, June 10, 2021.

A man was found dead in an Evergreen Township home early Thursday morning following a fire. 

Shortly before 4:30 a.m., Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a report of a house fire in the 5000 block of North Decker Road, according to the Sanilac County Sheriff Department. 

Argyle Fire Department responded and initially reported that the home was vacant, but upon extinguishing the fire, firefighters found a body inside the home, the department said. 

A Michigan State Police fire marshal was then called to assist in the investigation. 

Officers on scene identified the body as a 29-year-old man from the Detroit area, police said. 

The cause of death will be determined once an autopsy is performed. 

The incident is believed to be an isolated incident, the sheriff department said. 

Anyone who observed any vehicles or suspicious activity in this area around the time of the fire should call the Sanilac County Sheriff Detective Bureau at (810) 648-8360. 

The Detroit Police Department is also assisting in the investigation.
