Cause of Death
Due to the Hurricane Ida there was power outage throughout the city. So, without power Laura struggled in her house for days in brutal summertime conditions.
During this difficulty she was constantly texting her neighbours, that her migaines were persistent.
Later on Sunday, it was reported that she stopped returning texts and didn’t answer a knock on the door. A neighbour forced herself into her appartment and found her lying on the floor dead.
According to statee officials, “At least 26 people had died in Louisiana due to the Ida on Wednesday. 13 of those casualities happened in New Orleans, including 10 who were killed by excessive heat during the extended power outages caused by the storm.”
Officials did not immediately identify those who died in New Orlean. But Laura’s descripture matches those that died with one of the eight heat-related deaths.
Bergerol’s neighbor, Caitlyn Ridenour said, “Somebody in her health … being in this heat even for a day is not ideal at all, And she was in it for a week.”
In 2005, the 59-year-old moved to New Orleans from California after Hurricane Katrina.
She posted on Twitter about relocation to Florida, but she was still in New Orleans on Aug. 28, the night before Ida struck. Officials said “evacuating at that time was too risky, so she stayed.”
