Kyler Small Death – Obituary – Authorities have released the name of a toddler boy who died Tuesday in Hueytown. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the child as Kyler Small. He was 2.

Hueytown police and firefighters responded at 11:35 a.m. Tuesday to a residence in the 1400 block of 26th Avenue on a report of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Chief Mike Yarbrough said they arrived to find a 2-year-old wounded and immediately began life-saving efforts. The child was rushed to Children’s of Alabama where he was pronounced dead at 12:22 p.m.

The chief said the initial investigation shows the child found a family member’s weapon and discharged the gun. Coroner’s officials said the shooting was accidental. An investigation is ongoing, and Yarbrough said no additional information is being released.
