Former NASCAR driver, John Wes Townley, 31-year-old has reportedly been shot dead in a double homicide in the five points area of Athens, Georgia.

Just before 9pm on Saturday, October 2, 2021, Athens-Clark Police, reportedly received an alert about a shooting incident which took place at that time. On coming to the scene the police found out that John Townley and a woman had been shot and were bleeding as they were rushed to a near by hospital.
The 30-year-old woman reportedly secured serious injuries while Townley died in the hospital.
Who is John Townley?
The driving legend is the son of a co-founder of Athens-based Chicken Chain Zaxby’s, John. He was at his peak when his life was cut shot.
Townley Hailed from Watkinsville, Georgia, and was born December 31, 1989. He spent over 10 years of his life racing with NASCAR, and bringing victories as a professional in stock car driving.
Townley drove the No. 05 Chevrolet Silverado for Athenian Motorsports which was the last competition he did as part-time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, He also did a part time in Xfinity Series, driving the No. 05 Chevrolet Camaro for Athenian Motorsports.

Sources say that the 31-year-old was shot by a 32-year-old Dunwoody man who is currently being interrogated.
What has the police done to the Townley’s shooter?
The suspect is still being interrogated but Banner-Herald reported that, “The suspect, a 32-year-old Dunwoody man, was known to the victim, and currently there are no charges against him, Barnett said. Police have had contact with the shooter,
“The investigation is ongoing, and according to preliminary information, appears related to domestic violence, according to Barnett.”
