John Wes Townley Death – Obituary : 31-year-old John Wes Townley, whom was a former NASCAR driver has died after a double shooting in Athens Five Point Area, according to Athens-Clarke County coroner Sonny Wilson.

What happened to Former NASCAR driver John Wes Townley? 

A 30-year-old unidentified woman was also shot alongside Townley. Both were transported to an area hospital where Townley succumbed to his injuries and the woman listed in a critical condition, said Lt. Shaun Barnett, a Athens-Clarke Police Department spokesperson.

In 2015 Townley won the Camping World Truck Series race in Las Vegas, after spending nearly a decade competing in various NASCAR national touring series.

Just before 9 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the 200 block of Morton Avenue in the Five Points Neighborhood on a shots fired report, according to reports.

Police said a 32-year-old Dunwoody man, suspected to be the deadly incident perpetrator, was allegedly known to the victim. Although no known charges has been levelled against him, Officials say they have made contacts with him.
