Mother, two children killed, two other children hospitalised on Interstate 66 three-vehicle accident
According to Virginia State Police, a fatal Dunn Loring three-vehicle accident that occurred on eastbound lanes of I-66, near the Interstate 495 exit, has claimed the lives of a mother and her two children.
The horrible incident happened on Thursday morning, around 3 a.m.
According to initial report, the woman was driving a Honda SUV east on I-66 when she lost control near the 64-mile marker. It was stated that the Honda then veered to the right and hit a Toyota SUV after crashing with guardrail, reentered the eastbound lanes of I-66, and hit the Toyota again. A tractor-trailer driver coming that direction tried to avoid the Honda but ended up crashing with it.
The woman driving the Honda and her two children were confirmed dead at the scene, other two children in the vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Fairfax Inova Hospital for treatment.
Authorities have not disclosed the identities of the deceased persons pending notification of family members.
The driver of the Toyota got minor injuries and was moved to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Officials closed I-66 at Nutley Street during morning for investigation and clearing of the scene but has been freed at the moment.
Investigation is still on by the Authorities.
