Honolulu police are investigating a murder-suicide involving a man and woman at an assisted living center in Waikiki today.
Emergency Medical response team responded to the Plaza at Waikiki on 1812 Kalakaua Avenue at about 11:15 a.m.
The man and woman was pronounced dead from apparent gunshot injuries at the scene, according to Shayne Enright, a spokeswoman of the Honolulu Emergency Services Department
“Two seniors who were married were involved in the apparent murder-suicide at the Plaza at Waikiki today,” according to HPD Lt. Deena Thoemmes in a news conference today.
“An 86-year-old woman, who was living at the center, was with her visiting 92-year-old husband in a sitting area of the first level of center’s garage, the couple was alone at the time, others in the area reportedly heard gunshots,” , Thoemmes stated.
Officials disclosed a weapon and a note were found at the scene.
The Honolulu Police Department have declined revealing what the note contained.
Thoemmes disclosed, because of COVID-19 restrictions, the husband had to sign in to visit.
The Honolulu Police Department is scheduled to hold a news conference this afternoon to address the murder-suicide case.
Authorities are yet to disclose more details on the incident.
