Gene Pigford, Sidney Town Supersvisor, Dies at 76
Every community needs that one special person, the man or woman who would seemingly always be there when a need arises, to lend a hand, offer wise advice or support and encourage new ideas. Gene Pigford was that man.
R. Eugene “Gene” Pigford died suddenly on June 6, 2021.
At the time of his death, Gene Pigford was the Sidney, NY Town Supervisor. His position is expected to be filled by Deputy Supervisor Eric Wilson.
Gene was involved in local politics and involved in local issues for many years, including 8 years as Sidney Town Supervisor. Gene was a also a dedicated servant of the Salvation Army. He served several positions with the Salvation Army during a long 40 year association with that organization. He was also very active with the Fagan’s Flyers group and Rotary Club.
Men and women like Gene Pigford are part of the glue winch keeps our small communities working. Gene is leaving behind a big footprint over the area he loved so much., Rest in Peace, Gene, and thank you for your service.
Friends may call from 5:00-8:00pm on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main Street, Sidney, NY 13838. Graveside services will take place at 1:00pm on Thursday, June 10, 2021 in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla. Memorial contributions may be made in Gene Pigford’s name to The Salvation Army, Oneonta, NY, The Catherine Booth Bible College, Winnipeg, Manitoba or the Town of Sidney United Way.
