A fatal accident has claimed a persons life at the junction of Missouri Route 291 and 23rd Street in Independence.
The incident happened on Saturday evening, around 10:30 p.m.
Sgt. Jason Petersen said “a spokesman with the Independence Police Department, a black Acura was traveling south on Route 291 “at a high rate of speed” toward the intersection of Missouri Route 78 when the Acura crashed into a Ford Taurus that was turning left onto Route 78.”
It was also gathered that the vehicle continued moving south after the crash, it moved to median into the northbound lane of Route 291 where it crashed with a GMC Acadia head-on.
Petersen added that the driver of the Acura was pulled from the car and was struck by a Ford F-150 that was traveling northbound.
Authorities reported that the Acura driver was transported to hospital where he was confirmed dead.
The identity of the deceased is yet to be disclosed pending notification of next of kin.
Petersen said “child was also in the Acura at the time of the crash, and was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Officials stated that the driver of the Acadia was badly injured, and a child passenger in the car got unserious injures and was also transported to hospital.
The driver of the Taurus and the driver and passenger in the F-150 did not sustain injured from the incident.
There is no further information regarding the crash.
