Driver accused of killing 59-year-old woman faces charges
Roland Escobar, 42, of Taunton accused of hitting and killing a woman with his SUV Tuesday afternoon is facing several charges including manslaughter and operating under the influence of drugs.
According to Taunton police, they responded to the report at about 4:30 p.m. of a driver who hit a pedestrian on Main Street in the area of Cedar Street.
Lisa Rocha, 59, of Taunton, suffered life threatening injuries and was taken to Morton Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The driver of the SUV, Roland Escobar allegedly sped off afterward then collided with another vehicle on nearby Summer Street, causing his SUV to hit the passenger side.
Escobar who did not sustain serious injuries was taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, said the police.
After his treatment, He was arrested on charges of manslaughter, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, driving while under the influence of drugs leading to death, operating while under the influence of drugs, absconding from the scene resulting in death, and leaving the scene resulting in property damage, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
He will be arraigned in court on Wednesday.
