According to Athens-Clarke County Police, Lt. Shaun Barnett, 29-year-old Donterris Gresham, of Athens, Georgia turned himself in at the Clarke County jail on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 following the hit-and-run accident that took place on Saturday night, October 9, 2021 in Athens-Clarke County that claimed the life of 20-year-old University of Georgia student, Ariana Zarse

ACCPD identified Gresham as the suspect on Monday, October 11 and issued a warrant for his arrest.

According to officials, Zarse was walking with her friend at the intersection of West Broad Street and Foundry Street in Athens when she was struck by Honda Accord that fled the scene immediately without stopping to render aid to the injured.

Emergency crews arrived the scene and transported Zarse to the hospital by where she succumbed to her injuries on Sunday, October 10. While her friend was not hurt.

Gresham was was booked into jail on Wednesday evening, October 13, 2021 and he has been charged he is charged with 1st-degree vehicular homicide, hit-and-run resulting in serious injury or death, failure to obey a traffic control device, too fast for conditions and driving without a valid license.
