Divers Missing Cornwall – What happened to the two divers who went exploring the HMS Scylla on Friday.
United States – Two divers have been declared missing after they went exploring the Scylla on Friday, September 3rd 2021.
The HMS Scylla is said to be a Leander-class frigate of the Royal Navy. It was reportedly built at Devonport Royal Dockyard, the last RN frigate to be built there as of 2016. It is said to have been stuck in 2004.
Search for the Divers Missing Cornwall :
Search began for the divers after they did not return to the surface at the expected time. One of the divers from the three who initially went in was able to be rescued and is now being treated for decompression at DDRC Healthcare.
A news release by BBC News reads “Three people had been undertaking a dive yesterday afternoon into the early hours of yesterday evening. There had been an issue below surface while they were exploring the wreck. We swang into action a search and rescue plan involving the rescue helicopter from Newquay, the Looe and Plymouth inshore lifeboats, Plymouth all-weather lifeboat, a police launch and other vessels. The dive boat also remained on scene. We were unable to locate or find anybody. Our thoughts are with the people who were in the dive party who are dealing with what is a very traumatic experience.”
The identity of the divers has not been given. Authorities are however doing all they can to find them. They also said this might now be a recovery mission as they fear the two divers might have died.
The HMS Scylla seems to be very dangerous as the authorities are warning strongly against exploring the area. It is said that most divers that explore the area ends up dead. Two divers from Gloucestershire died there.
