Kerry Newland, 50 of Thief River Falls passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND with her loving family by her side. She died unexpectedly leaving family members, loved ones and friends in great grief and fear.
Survivors include her children, Derick, Jarin and Darian of Thief River Falls; parents Richard “Rick” and Arlene Froiland of Plummer, MN; siblings, Jerilee (Ben) Carpenter of Argusville, ND, Shannon Froiland of Vadnais Heights, MN and Ginger (Jason) Hruby of Thief River Falls; nieces and nephews, Lexi, Brock, Cole, Dayton, Sterling, Arlee, Madeline, Logan, Gres, and Corbin. Kerry is also survived by the Newland family including Darlene Newland of Thief River Falls; Shawn (David Majeres) Newland, Renee Georgewell, Griffin Newland, and Brock Newland and their children, Mariah, Amon, Evan, Cameron, Abby, and Lukas; aunt/Godmother, Loretta Syrtveit and aunt, Marie Foster; and many cousins, family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Herbert and Lottie Lundeen, Arthur and Avis Froiland; aunt, Harriet Lundeen; uncle/Godfather, Irvin Flatgard; uncle, Oren Syrtveit, and Lisa Carr.
Life Experience Before Death…
Kerry Jean Froiland was born July 5, 1971 in Red Lake Falls, MN to Richard “Rick” and Arlene (Lundeen) Froiland. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN. Kerry attended school in Plummer, graduating from Pershing High School with the class of 1989. She then attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. Kerry enjoyed serving an internship with FMHA in Ellendale, ND.
After graduation, Kerry accepted a job with Northwest Beverage in Thief River Falls.
On July 9, 1994, Kerry was united in marriage to Griffin Newland at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls and to this union three children were born, Derick, Jarin and Darian.
Through her 28 years working at Northwest Beverage, Kerry served in many different positions of the company. Most recently her title was Successor Manager/Vice President.
Kerry was a member of the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce, Thief River Falls Chamber of Commerce, Minnesota Beer Wholesalers Association, and National Beer Wholesalers Association. She was also a member of Pennington County Fair’s Bull Ride Committee for 24 years which she enjoyed immensely. Her passion for animals lead her to pursue fundraising for the Pennington County Humane Society. Kerry participated in Better World Projects through her employer which included improving schools and preparing backpacks for underprivileged children. Kerry especially enjoyed the feeling of accomplishment when the work was done.
Kerry loved the morning sun, warm sandy beaches, volleyball, golf, hot tubs, and chocolate. She enjoyed playing on a volleyball league and proudly served as team captain, league president and vice president. She often said she was born in the wrong state because even as a small child she was always frozen.
Kerry loved and was very proud of her three children. She was a loving mother, independent, stubborn, intelligent, witty; she wasn’t always right but was never wrong!
Funeral Arrangements / Visitations
On Monday, September 20, 2021 at 10:30 AM, Rev. Jonathan Dodson will officiate the celebration of Kerry’s life at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN. Visitation will be offered beginning at 9:30 AM.. A Prayer Service will be held at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at 6:00 PM with visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Burial will be at Emardville Cemetery, Plummer, MN.
We pray that God grants those who are affected by this death the fortitude to carry on. Losing a beloved one is one of the most difficult feelings on earth. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the family members and friend.
