Metropolitan Police Department says a person is dead and two others wounded following a shooting early hours of Friday, including one individual shot by a Metropolitan Police Department officer says.
Officials of the MPD responded to the 6300 block of 9th Str. NW on a shooting report. Arriving officers found two victims with gunshot wounds, according to a briefing by Chief Robert Contee.
Authorities disclosed one of the victims dead early Friday morning after suffering from critical gunshot injuries.
The other victims were listed in a stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
While officers were rendering first aid, they noticed someone “fleeing the scene of the homicide in a small, red SUV,” according to Chief Contee.
Officers began a pursuit and attempted a traffic stop, but the individual reportedly evaded officers before crashing near 9th St. and Tuckerman St.
“The vehicle he was driving overturned onto its side. When officers were bring him out ofthe vehicle, they saw he was armed with a gun. He then drew his weapon and aimed it at officers,” Chief Contee says.
Officers ordered him to drop the gun, but he reportedly refused.
An MPD officer shot at him, then transported him to the hospital with graze injuries, reports says.
