Coroner identifies body that was found near Illinois River on Sunday
PEORIA (WEEK) — The Peoria County coroner has identified the man who was found dead near the Illinois River in Peoria on Sunday.
Jason Rutherford, 43, of Peoria, died of blunt force trauma injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene at the foot of Lorentz Avenue, said Coroner Jamie Harwood.
Peoria Park Police discovered Rutherford’s body in a grassy area between the river and a paved parking lot at around 6:40 a.m. Sunday. Several feet away was an ATV, according to authorities.
Rutherford’s death, said Harwood, appears to be an accident and no foul play is suspected.
A toxicology report is pending and the incident remains under investigation by the Peoria Police Traffic Unit.
