Child dies in Garden City multi-vehicle crash

GARDEN CITY, Kan. (KWCH) – Update: A five-year-old girl died Tuesday in a crash involving three vehicles in Garden City.

The crash happened Tuesday afternoon on US-50 mile marker 80.6 eastbound, east of the Garden City Airport.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said a 2012 Ford Edge drove left of center and side-swiped a 2009 Chevy Traverse. The Traverse went into the westbound ditch. The Edge bounced off the Traverse and struck a 2011 Toyota Tacoma, driver side to driver side. Both vehicles came to a rest on the westbound shoulder.

Five-year-old Plliana Mupenzi was one of three passengers in the Traverse. She died in the crash. All others involved were taken to the St. Catherine Hospital with minor injuries.

One person is dead following a multiple-vehicle crash in Garden City.

The crash happened at 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday. Trooper Racy with the Kansas Highway Patrol said the scene was located on Highway 50 at milepost 80.5, east of the Garden City Airport. Three vehicles were involved.

Racy said other people were injured in the crash and taken to hospitals in Finney County for treatment. Their conditions are unknown.
