“Very sad to hear the passing of my guy Bobby Pettigrew what a legend in Kokomo. Not only was that man an amazing athlete, he was an even better person that impacted everybody’s life for the better! I know over the years, and not being home as much as I was, we didn’t talk like we used to when you coached me but I want to say thank you for being such a staple in the Kokomo community!
Rest In Peace brother, and let this be a reminder to enjoy each day on this Earth because it is only temporary! You never know when the Lord is going to call you home! Praying for my city and Bobs family during this time, have each others back during this sad time ❤️”

“I never post but felt like I had to say something. This story is a typical act of love from Bobby Pettigrew but poignant to me! After my young son passed away in a tragic accident Big B reached out to me several times and I ignored him several times but the last time he promised to “hunt me down “ so I called him back!! We talked awhile about life and friendship then he invited me to church ( Mt. Pisgah) I’m sorry to say I’m not really into going to church but Bobby can be persuasive! I show up Sunday at the second service and called Bobby then realized I was supposed to be at the first service so he leaves his family and lunch to go back for me . When he walked up to me he gave me a big hug and held me for a minute then told me he loved me and that I can get through this!! Seeing I was a bit nervous about my skin color, he said this is a peoples church of love . We walked in and he was introducing me to everyone and just made me feel wonderful in my deepest sorrow. The church was one big hug!! After the service he stayed and introduced me to the wonderful pastor who took the time to council and pray with me.. Bobby Pettigrew didn’t tell anyone about this because it was his normal . During my worst days he picked me up and took me to church knowing that’s what I needed!! He will be missed and I hope the community will honor him in a way he will never be forgotten!! Rest easy Big B I will always love you!!!”

“I’ve been thinking of the words all day to describe the feelings that have overwhelmed my soul when I learned of the passing of Bobby Pettigrew! Disbelief, shock, sadness started my day… those feelings have turned into feelings of gratefulness to live in this community that honors legends and difference makers of such character, love for those coming together to honor Bobby, calm in the storm when comforting friends and youth Bobby so richly blessed! He made us all better people, blessed to have called Bobby my friend! These pictures are from a class of 95 reunion! Bobby was recovering and we were all so excited to see him out! Delmo, Tim and Tymon were on “Bobby watch”! Too soon… just too soon!!! Praying for his family!!! Sending my love!!!! #totalwildkat #legacymatters #wildkatnation Not goodbye, but I’ll see you again…🙏🏾❤️🙏🏼”

“Bobby Pettigrew faithfully attended my church school class, we had plenty of times where I wld have to talk him through his frustrations, plenty times he wld text me saying how he was finna type/say smthn but he didn’t want to hear what I had to say about it later.
But on the day of this picture HE POURED INTO ME! He built me up, he lifted my spirits, he encouraged me & it was just what I needed that day.
Don’t get me wrong tho, we argued & fussed at each other as well & we sho-nuffed laughed.
If you know Bob you know he don’t mind doing anything for anybody. He also didn’t mind sharing his convictions about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. So even tho we are sad on this side family and friends we can find comfort in knowing Bobby is ok.
Rest well lil brutha I’m gonna miss you dawg but I can hear you saying “I’m goood” See you in the morning Mr. Kokomo!”
