Boat capsizes on Lake Michigan, 20-year-old man still missing, others rescued
EAST CHICAGO, IN — A search is ongoing for a man who has been missing since Saturday after the boat he was on capsized. According to the Associated Press, Kelvin Soto Crespo, 20, of Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, was one of four people on the approximate 18-foot long Bayliner runabout that capsized around 2:15 p.m. Saturday offshore from the East Chicago Marina.
Two of the men on board were rescued by the Coast Guard after being spotted by a Chicago Fire Department helicopter, the AP reports. A third man spent about two hours in the 50 degree water before he was picked up by a good Samaritan. Two of the men were treated for hypothermia and a third was listed in critical condition.
All three of those men were able to put on life jackets as the boat sunk.
As rescue efforts continue, an underwater sonar search for Crespo is expected to take place Monday. The boat has also not been recovered during the search, according to the AP.
