Authorities identified the three people killed in Victoria Minnesota plane crash
Authorities have identified the three people on board after a Mooney M20M aircraft crashed into a home on Saturday in Victoria, Minnesota. The victims are identified as
- Dr. Sara Mertes
- Jake Mertes (Dr. Sara’s husband)
- Dr. James Edney
Report has it that the crash took place on Saturday, August 7, 2021, in the evening hours.
Federal Aviation Administration has it that, the single-engine plane departed from Alexandria Municipal Airport and was to land at Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie before it crashed into a vacant lot and a home around 5:40 p.m.
Investigation revealed that the three people on board died after parts of the plane were found two blocks from the main crash site, making officials to believe that the plane fell apart before falling onto a house
Two people were in the house when the crash occurred but both came out unhurt.
Cause of the crash has not been made known. However, authorities believed that the poor weather condition experienced on the said date of the incident must have contributed to the crash.
According to a spokesperson, Dr. Edney was a former chief of the division of surgical oncology and also professor emeritus from the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Department of Surgery. He retired in 2015.
On the other hand, Sara was a family medicine doctor at Cabinet Peaks Medical Center where her husband, Jake also worked as an Emergency Medical Technician.
National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.
