AUSTIN WILLIAM LANZ OBITUARY – According to reports, the suspect in connection with the death of a Pentagon officer Tuesday has been identified as a Georgia man.
Reports states that Austin William Lanz, of Georgia, was shot by law enforcement and killed after he allegedly ambushed an officer and stabbed him in the neck. The incident reportedly took place at a transit center outside the building.
The Pentagon was temporarily locked down after the violence broke out at about 10:30 a.m.
Pentagon Force Protection Agency confirmed the loss of the officer, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin expressed his condolences on Twitter and said flags at the Pentagon will be flown at half-staff.
The motive for the attack is still under investigation.
27-year-old Lanz, was reportedly enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in October 2012 but was “administratively separated” less than a month later, he never earned the “Marine” title, the Corps said in a statement.
